Mrs. Christine Fournier - executive of WATA, has given very high praise to Stara Zagora and Kazanlak and recommended the region to tour operators in the whole world.

The visit of the World Association of Travel Agencies (WATA) executive – Mrs. Christine Fournier in Stara Zagora region, has been largely exposed in WATA website and news bulletins. Mrs. Fournier has given very high praise to the two-days forum and especially to the tourism potential of Stara Zagora and Kazanlak. Her evaluation touches on the personal grounds and professional aspects.
The WATA executive – Mrs. Christine Fournier granted a partnership certificate to Mr. Oleg Stoilov - chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Stara Zagora, for the two-days forum organization.
Besides the news published on WATA website, Christine Fournier has informed all partners and members of the association with more than 2500 emails. She expresses her high opinion of the tourism potential in Stara Zagora region and recommends promotion of Bulgaria as a unique tourist destination.

Dear WATA Members ,

In front of all WATA members I would like here after to pay a very special and sincere tribute and express my deep thanks to Mr Ognian Blagoev and Mrs Daniela Sekiranska and their daughter Elitza and Mina for my fantastic stay In Bulgaria last week. This, on a personal and professional aspect.

Personal, because of the so warm welcome I received from the family, at their home, at their office (seeing again with such a pleasure all MIEL Staff), for having had an unique opportunity to discover this magnificent and enchanting country that Bulgaria is.

We travelled in the full region of Stara Zagora in Southern Bulgaria and every moment was the new discovery of a treasure : The remains of two houses from a settlement of the Neolithic age, dating from the 6th millenium BC, the roman ruins, the Museum with the most interesting finds at the site : Painted pottery, vessels, and unique gold jewelry; the art gallery with traditional and contemporary paintings, the Zagorka Beer Brewery. Then, Kazanlak, the famous city of roses, Shipka Russian church, with as the highlight of the trip, the unique favor made to me to enter the original Thracian tomb of Sevt ІІІ, under the protection of UNESCO world heritage. And much more.

This was an incomparable travel through 8000 years of history, in the best modern conditions, with a wonderful hospitality from all people I met, with accommodation in the best hotels, with excellent food and wines.

I really wish all of you the opportunity to visit Bulgaria and particularly the region of Stara Zagora-Kazanlak, to go back to the roots of hearth and satisfy all your senses and mind.

Professional, because of the exclusive welcome made to WATA and myself as its representative, during the days of my trip through this region, in the frame of the development of the region as a long-standing, sustainable destination.

I had the opportunity to attend, as a very special guest, round table, forums, press-conference. WATA name was largely exposed through media, TV interviews, etc.

I must stress that, without the full and very active support of WATA-MIEL, such a project would certainly not be feasible and of course the region understands that this is only realistic into the frame of the promotion of the whole country of Bulgaria as a touristic destination.

WATA had also the opportunity to be exposed to the Rotary Club Sofia upon special invitation through Mr Blagoev, Rotarian and I could in front of the audience make a presentation on WATA. A short resume can be found on WATA homepage in news columns - www.wata.net

JOURNEY TO THE DAWN OF AGES

The Stara Zagora Region is one of the very few places in the world where the development of human civilization can be traced back to antiquity. Here, civilizations sprung, evolved and thrived, and examples of their struggles are strewn throughout the region. Epic battles, stormy and passionate lives, religious cults all claimed the Stara Zagora Region as theirs. Over the millennia, historical artefacts have surfaced and been preserved, offering today’s visitors an unforgettable journey down the ages.

Life in the Neolithic Age Immerse yourself in the New Stone Age – early 6th millennium BC. The unique Neolithic dwellings in Stara Zagora are one of the best preserved in Europe. You can see authentic tools - household and art items, including hand mills, ancient hearths, pottery fragments, deer horn sickles - all crafted and used by ancestors of today’s Europeans. Ref. The splendour of Thracian culture Visit the Valley of the Thracian Kings, experience the touch of the mysterious rituals of Orphism in the mounds, tombs and in the ancient city of Sevtopolis (4th century BC). Here, in the city of Kazanlak, you can view exquisitely made pottery and jewellery that both reflect and provide evidence of a once flourishing Thracian culture. This spirit is especially tangible during the Festival of the Thracian culture in Kazanlak .................... Ref. No 6-11 on the Map

Stara Zagora has preserved its ancient Roman heritage The Roman Emperor Marcus Ulpius Trayan built the city of Augusta Trayana (107 AD) on the site of an ancient Thracian settlement in honour of his victory over the Dacians. The city rose to become the site of the second most significant cultural and administrative centre in the province, even minting its own coins. When you visit, make sure to see the exquisite Roman mosaics, the fortified walls, the Roman baths and the ancient open air theatre, which continues to be the site of ongoing public performances to this day...... Proto-Bulgarian traditions and habits live on The ruins of dozens of fortresses, churches and monasteries bear witness to the memory of the glory of the First and Second Bulgarian State (8th - 9th century AD). Bulgaria adopted Christianity in the 9th century and, with a fearsome army, went on to establish itself as the largest state in the Balkans. It was also home of men of letters, spreading enlightenment and introducing the Bulgarian language in church rituals........................... Ref. No 17 on the Map

The unbreakable Bulgarian spirit During 500 years of Ottoman rule, the Bulgarians kept their spirit and clung to their Bulgarian language and cultural traditions, despite the armed uprisings and liberation struggles. The feats of bravery of those who died for Bulgaria’s liberation – Bulgarians, Russians, Romanians and Finnish soldiers – are immortalized by the dozens of monuments attesting to their sacrifice............................ Nature and attractions In the Valley of the Roses, located between two mountain ranges, the foremost oil-bearing rose in the world is cultivated and promoted as the symbol of Bulgaria. The unique Rose Festival in May is an unforgettable experience for tourists who come from all over the world to immerse themselves in the magic of rose oil. Hiking fans will enjoy the picturesque beauty of nature – the coolness of the oak pine forests of the Balkan Mountains. The Balkan Peninsula, which gets its name from these mountains, is also home to excellent fishing, hunting, and even flying with a delta planer. Nature has also endowed this region with an abundance of mineral springs, healing waters and energy centres which together form the foundation of spa tourism in the region...... Ref. Art and Culture – The soul of Bulgaria throughout the centuries The Stara Zagora Region is the birthplace of numerous poets, musicians and artists who have left their mark in art and culture at a global level. It is also host to the International Opera and Ballet Festival, the Puppet Theatre, a unique Roma Festival and numerous artistic exhibitions. Organized festivals and celebrations dot the calendar throughout the year, exhibiting the Bulgarian traditions and welcoming visitors to join in the merriment. Ref. No 30-45 on the Map
